Academy Nominations
I have the honor and privilege to recommend some of Missouri’s most talented and skilled individuals to attend the four United States service academies. These academies allow young people to serve our country and receive an excellent undergraduate education from some of our nation’s finest institutions of higher learning. Upon acceptance of an appointment into an academy, a student commits to five years of active-duty service after graduation.
Eligibility
Each applicant for a nomination from my office must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an academy:
- Must be at least 17 years old, but not have passed the applicant’s 23rd birthday. (25th birthday for the Merchant Marine Academy).
- Must be a U.S. Citizen, and a permanent resident of Missouri.
- Must be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.
Academy Nominations and Procedures
Prior to applying for a nomination from my office, please contact your academy or academies of choice to request a pre-candidate questionnaire. Once completed and returned, the academy will apprise you of any special physical, medical, or academic requirements particular to their institution.
Application Deadline
This application for a service academy nomination and all other required submissions must be received by our office no later than September 27, 2024. Please keep this in mind especially in regard to the required recommendations, which can often take the longest to arrive. Be sure to apply for a nomination from all three of your Members of Congress to increase your opportunities to receive a nomination.
Likewise, please create an account, complete the questionnaire, and ensure that the following required materials are uploaded on the Application Portal:

- Headshot Photograph
- Evaluation Forms and Recommendation Letters
- Academic Records
- Transcripts
- Standardized Test Scores

Acknowledgment Form and Photograph
- Complete, sign, and upload the Acknowledgment Form to the Application Portal upon completion of your application.
- Upload a wallet-sized (2×3) headshot photo to the Application Portal. Your headshot should be full face view. This may be sent with a release to your local paper if you accept an appointment.
Academic Records
**All transcripts and test scores should be uploaded by the school principal or advisor to the Application Portal.**
Transcripts
- High School Applicants
Upload an official transcript from all high schools attended or currently attending. Transcripts should include three full years of study, current GPA, and current class rank. All transcripts should be uploaded by the applicant’s principal or advisor to the Application Portal. - College Applicants
Upload an official transcript from all colleges or junior colleges attended or currently attending. If you are currently in college, also send an official copy of your class schedule. All transcripts should be uploaded by the applicant’s advisor to the Application Portal.
Standardized Test Scores
Official ACT or SAT scores must be obtained either by forwarding the scores to the Senator’s office through the testing service or by uploading the test scores to the Application Portal. To forward scores directly to the Senator’s office, please provide the following codes to the respective testing service – ACT: 7150, SAT: 6158. Scores received after the application deadline of September 27, 2024 will not be accepted.
Evaluation Forms and Recommendation Letters
**All Recommendation Letters and Evaluation Forms should be uploaded to your checklist on the portal.**
High School Applicants are required to provide the following evaluation forms and recommendation letters:
- One (1) Advisor/Principal Evaluation Form & Corresponding Recommendation Letter: Request that your advisor or principal complete the Advisor/Principal Evaluation Form and attach a recommendation letter;
- One (1) Personal Evaluation Form & Corresponding Recommendation Letter: Request that a teacher or coach complete the Personal Evaluation Form and attach a recommendation letter;
- One to three (1-3) Additional Recommendation Letter(s): Request that a boss, scout leader, church member, or other personal reference submit a recommendation letter. Letters from family members will not be permitted. You cannot submit more than three letters from this category.
If you are home-schooled, please contact Senator Hawley’s Office to discuss your evaluation requirements.
College/Academy Prep School Applicants are required to provide the following evaluation forms and recommendation letters:
- One (1) College Advisor/Faculty Evaluation Form & Corresponding Recommendation Letter: Request that your college advisor or ROTC Instructor complete the College Evaluation Form and submit a recommendation letter;
- One (1) Personal Evaluation Form & Corresponding Recommendation Letter: Request that a college professor or coach fill out the Personal Evaluation Form and submit a recommendation letter;
- One to three (1-3) Additional Recommendation Letter(s): Request that a boss, scout leader, church member, or other personal reference submit a recommendation letter. Letters from family members will not be permitted. You cannot submit more than three letters from this category.
Active-Duty Military Members or Applicants Not Enrolled in College are required to provide the following evaluations forms and recommendation letters:
- One (1) Supervisor Evaluation Form & Corresponding Recommendation Letter: Request that your chain of command complete the Supervisor Evaluation and submit a recommendation letter;
- One (1) Personal Evaluation Form & Corresponding Recommendation Letter: Request that a supervisor, former teacher, or former coach complete the Personal Evaluation Form and submit a recommendation letter;
- One to three (1-3) Additional Recommendation Letter(s): Request that a boss, scout leader, church member, or other personal reference submit a recommendation letter. Letters from family members will not be permitted. You cannot submit more than three letters from this category.
Portal Questionnaire and Essays
Please complete the online questionnaire and essay prompts on the Application Portal as completely and candidly as possible. There is no need to email an additional copy to the office.
